Memo to the KFCF Program Needs Assessment Committee:

I wanted to let you know about two changes to the local program schedule
that I have been considering and want to implement unless there are howls of
anger. I would appreciate your input if any.

1) There is a program proposal from Peace Fresno to produce the 3:30 to 4
pm show on the fifth Wednesdays. The executive producer will be Richard
Gomez, who has given me a written application outlining the program plan. I
will get a copy to you. They plan to not only talk peace issues but also
programs exploring cultural diversity in the Valley. I have stressed to
Richard the importance of production values and of talking to a broad range
of people and experts. I would like to let them produce the fifth
Wednesdays for June, August and November of 2005 and see how they do. The
program does not replace any KPFA or other KFCF programming.

2) The other change involves my program Valley Bioregion which is on the
first Friday of the month at 3:30 pm. Basically, I don't have the passion
to produce the program any more. While I'm capable of putting up a good
show every month, I don't have the drive to do so anymore. I want to
substitute the Sierra Earth First program in it's place. Sierra Earth First
is produced by Michael Becker and Mark Soma and they have already produced
four 1-hour programs over the past year on the fifth Friday 5-6 pm slot.
They produce a tight, content-filled program with an edge, covering
important local environmental issues and have received good listener
responses. They are also a good connection to FSU, as they both teach there
and advertise the show to the student community. I think the show fits in
with the environmental theme the other Friday 3:30 pm shows and will be an
exciting addition to the program lineup. This change will leave the fifth
Friday 5-6 pm time slot open for other occasional producers for special
programs.

I welcome questions and comments.

Yours Truly,
Vic in Program Director mode
