Hey PNA people, I received this proposal from Bob Lambert and Bill Trayler -
we can discuss it at the next meeting. I like the proposal because they
plan to have local bands on, but I'm not certain about the Tuesday time
being the best place for it.

Subject: KFCF Proposal
Vic Bedoian, KFCF
Dear Vic,
Here is the show proposal we have spoken about in the last couple of months:
Show proposal - KFCF
Bob Lambert and Bill Trayler, veterans of Fresno radio, with over 15 years
of combined airtime, wish to propose a new music/community involvement show
for KFCF.
Both have produced and anchored weekly music shows on KFSR, 90.7 FM, the
Fresno State radio station. Lambert was on the air for three
years with a morning jazz show (Conference of the Birds,) then switched to
an eclectic mix of rock, jazz, country, and esoterica on Tuesday
nights from 9 to midnight, with "Uncommon Thread." He currently produces
"Time Trippin' with Brother Bob" on KFCF every third Sunday each month from
7-9pm.
Tuesday nights from 6 to 9 was home for eight years for the highly
successful Trayler Trash." This show featured a broad mix of rock,
"alternative everything",
socially-conscious folk, and absurd, skillfully blended together for an
entertaining and thought-provoking three hours each week. What kept that
show undeniably
fresh and community oriented was Bill's natural rapport with artists and
musicians from all over the San Joaquin Valley . Live performances were
frequent, sometimes spontaneous,
celebrations of local talent. Trayler Trash and Uncommon Thread often would
combine efforts for longer, themed shows, such as a six hour antiwar
Special, in which many performers wrote songs specifically for the event.
Artist tributes were listener favorites, and included prerecorded and live
segments
focusing on entertainers as diverse as Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, Ken Nordine,
and Joni Mitchell.
Tributes and organized musical events have not been limited to the studio,
as live shows at local venues included "A Fresno Nod to Bob" the tribute to
Bob Dylan
at Club Fred last year, featuring the Fresneaux Ramblers, Ted Nunes, Roger
Perry, Burr Frye, David Lane and others. San Francisco's "Copper Women"
performed in Fresno as an "Uncommon Trash" production. A wide variety of
community leaders and artisans have also been featured on one or both of the
shows, including Kendall Simsarian, President, Downtown Association; Dr.
David Pepper, University Medical Center; Bruce Ratcliffe, Edison High
School;
Pat Wolk, Fresno Folklore Society, etc. Bill was also a producer and large
contributor to the acclaimed "Spare the Air" series on KFSR.
The as-yet-unnamed show we propose for KFCF would be a two hour
music/community interest program, featuring prerecorded music from all
styles, usually theme-
related, and specifically NOT commercially oriented. That does not
translate to unlistenable however! Both Lambert and Trayler have vast
knowledge of rock from the 50s
to today, as well as many other genres including folk, jazz, classical,
country, world, and more. Their combined resources of prerecorded music
rival any of that found
in the valley as well. Mixed with music will come a unique combination of
high-brow and low-brow commentary, usually teetering between insight and
whimsy.
Interviews with Fresno entrepreneurs, specifically (but not limited to)
Tower District and Downtown types, such as employees of art galleries,
restaurants, bicycle shops,
and breweries will pepper the show. Live in studio performances by a virtual
"who's-who" of Fresno musicians in a variety of settings. The program that
we propose would
continue a long tradition of supporting local musicians and functions.
Every other Tuesday night from 7 to 9pm, or 8 to10pm would be an ideal time
slot, as both have a dedicated following during that time period.
